Inmate captured after from escape from Baker Correctional Institute work camp

The Clay County Sheriff's Office said it took Shane Kizziah into custody after they said he crashed a stolen truck near Blanding Boulevard and County Road 220 in Middleburg.

SANDERSON, Fla. — UPDATE, 5/29/18, 6:45 p.m.: The Clay County Sheriff's Office said it took Shane Kizziah into custody after they said he crashed a stolen truck near Blanding Boulevard and County Road 220 in Middleburg.

After receiving a BOLO from Baker Correctional Institute, a CCSO K-9 Unit spotted the missing truck and began following it.

The truck started driving erratically and deputies continued to follow it. Deputies said the truck then crashed into a vehicle with an elderly couple inside. Authorities said they are expected to be OK and were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The Florida Highway Patrol said it tracked Kizziah across multiple counties and several agencies assisted.

UPDATE, 5/29/18, 5:50 p.m.: The Florida Department of Corrections announced Kizziah has been captured.

The Florida Department of Corrections is searching for an inmate who escaped from a Baker Correctional Institute work camp.

Shane Kizziah, 25, is described as having brown hair and hazel eyes, is 5-foot-9 and weighs 161 pounds.

Kizziah's 26th birthday is Wednesday.

Kizziah escaped from the Baker CI work camp, which is in Sanderson, around 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, according to a release from the Florida DOC.

Authorities said Kizzah is a minimum custody inmate who was scheduled to be released in Oct. 2020.

He was doing yard work at Baker Correctional Institution when he departed the institution in a vehicle. Kizziah's​​​​​ has no history of discipline while incarcerated, authorities said.

Kizziah is in prison for a 2010 charge of robbery with a gun or deadly weapon.
