Inmate suspected of murder dies in Putnam County Jail

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — An inmate who is suspected in the murder of Flyod “Andy” Parrish has died in the Putnam County Jail.

Action News Jax reported about Parrish's death in January 2015 when he disappeared, but his body was found a week later in the Ocala National Forest in Marion County.

The Sheriff’s Office said Richard Gertler, 54, died on July 25 after having chest pains and shortness of breath and first aid was not able to save him.

Gertler was charged with homicide and was sitting in the Putnam County Jail awaiting trial.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said it was notified of the death Tuesday at about 5 p.m. and is investigating.
