Irma has formed into a Category 3 hurricane in the east Atlantic Ocean on Thursday.
The 11 p.m. update from the National Hurricane Center showed no change in the storm.

The 5 p.m. update from the NHC showed that the system was upgraded to a major hurricane. Irma is the ninth-named storm of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season.

Meteorologist Arielle Nixon said it is too early to say exactly where the hurricane is headed. There are no expected local impacts.
The system formed into a tropical storm Wednesday and was expected to continue moving west for the next couple of days.
Irma is expected to have winds up to 115 mph on Thursday and 120 mph by early Saturday morning.
