Jacksonville, Fla — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accidental shooting involving a Jacksonville child.

According to police, a 3-year-old was hospitalized early Saturday morning with a self-inflicted gunshot to the hand after finding an unsecured handgun inside the home.

The child’s mother transported the child to a local hospital for emergency care, according to police.

Police report two other children were inside the home at the time of the shooting but say no other injuries occurred.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office say detectives with their Violent Crimes Unit are investigating and the Department of Children and Family Services will be contacted.
