Jacksonville Beach mother charged with murder of her young son to use insanity defense

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — A Jacksonville Beach mother accused of killing her young son plans to use the insanity defense, according to court documents.

Back in 2021, Amy Oliver was charged with murder in the first degree, aggravated child abuse, child neglect and was held without bond at the Duval County Jail. Due to the conditions she suffers from, her defense team insists she did not know that what she was doing was wrong.

Oliver, the mother of the child, locked herself in the bathroom and refused to leave. The father forced himself in the bathroom to see if Oliver was injured. The arrest report stated that the mother was in nothing but her underwear.

She then began to lunge at the JFRD personnel and made stabbing motions with a syringe. JFRD personnel left the bathroom and kept Oliver locked in.

Officers placed her into custody and JFRD transferred her to the hospital. Once she was medically cleared, she was transported to the Duval County Jail.
