An elementary school on Jacksonville's Northside was placed on a lockdown on Tuesday afternoon due to police activity in the area.

Garden City Elementary School on Dunn Avenue was under a Code Red lockdown for approximately 45 minutes, according to a message from Principal Mychelle Grover.

Grover said the school was placed on lockdown as a precaution per guidance from law enforcement due to the nearby police activity. She said students and staff remained safe during the lockdown.

The Walgreens location is two-tenths of a mile from Garden City Elementary. Action News Jax is working to get more information on the police presence at that Walgreens

Here is the full message that Garden City Elementary parents received from Grover:

Good afternoon parents and guardians,<br/> This is your Garden City principal calling to let you know that your student's safety is our top priority. That is why we have security and safety precautions in place. This afternoon, we placed the school on a Code Red as a precaution per guidance from law enforcement due to police activity in the area. We were on a Code Red for approximately 45 minutes before law enforcement advised that there was no immediate danger to the school. We were able to resume school and normal dismissal procedures. Students and staff remained safe throughout this time. We know this can be a scary situation, and we are so thankful for the great composure shown by our students and staff and for the patience shown by you as parents and guardians. Thank you as always for your support and partnership and we hope you have a wonderful remainder of your afternoon. <br/>
