Action News Jax told you in Oct. 2019, Jacksonville International has been working to get direct flights to the West Coast back ever since the 2008 economic recession, and as the population of metro Jacksonville swelled, so did the demand for those nonstop connections.
In 2018 Jacksonville International shattered travel records, becoming the fastest growing airport in the country, outpacing Austin, Texas, San Jose, California, and Nashville, Tennessee.
By the year 2022, a new $200 million concourse project is expected to be complete, and JIA says it could pave the way for nonstop flights into Europe and possibly beyond.
