Jacksonville man, girlfriend arrested following New Years Eve murder investigation

Investigators say a couple is behind bars following a murder investigation on New Years Eve.

On Thursday, December 31, officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of 3700 Saint Johns Bluff Road after receiving reports that a person had been shot. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male who they say was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Following a short investigation, Jerome Whitesides was arrested Friday and charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile Delinquent, Tampering with Evidence, Felony Possession of Marijuana, and Murder in the Second Degree.

Whitesides’ girlfriend, Jessica Rennard, 24, was also arrested and charged with Tampering with Evidence.
