Jacksonville Naval bases: No more masks for fully vaccinated military members

Jacksonville, Fla. — This week the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can ditch their face masks in most situations.

On Thursday, President Joe Biden called the CDC’s recommendation a “milestone” in the fight against COVID-19. That same say, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said, “Anyone who is fully vaccinated, can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without wearing a mask or physical distancing. If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic.”

The Department of Defense followed the announcement with an official response:

“...fully vaccinated DoD personnel (who are at least two weeks beyond their final dose) are no longer required to wear a mask indoors or outdoors at DoD facilities. All DoD personnel should continue to comply with CDC guidelines regarding areas where masks should be worn, including within airports.”

Have You Been Fully Vaccinated?

The CDC said people are considered fully vaccinated:

  • 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or
  • 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine

If you don’t meet these requirements, regardless of your age, you are not fully vaccinated and should continue taking necessary precautions until meeting one of the stated requirements.
