Jacksonville police investigate carjacking, person shot, pursuit

Police investigating after car crashes into retention pond on Beaver St. (Nov. 7, 2016)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville police are investigating a reported carjacking, a report of a person shot and a police pursuit.

Police responded around 10:15 a.m. Monday to a shooting in the area of Goldilocks Lane and Lane Avenue.

Police said the victim had been shot in the chest area and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The victim was shot in the chest area and taken to a hospital.

The victim's Mercedes-Benz was reported carjacked. Jacksonville police were alerted about the stolen vehicle.

Police said they spotted the stolen car and attempted to stop it, but the driver refused to stop.

Police pursued the vehicle to area of Beaver Street and Melson Avenue, where the car crashed into a retention pond.

The driver, who was not injured in the crash, was taken into custody.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate.
