JSO gave an update Friday evening, saying an officer shot a dog that had attacked him.
The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. Friday.
JSO Chief Alan Parker says it began when a woman who was the victim of a car burglary came out to the area of College Road between Willow Branch and McDuff avenues to look for a missing bag.
Her husband’s car was burglarized and that bag had emotional value to him.
She brought along her four-year-old daughter and her dog.

She is a veteran and the dog is a German Shepherd that she had received through Wounded Warrior Project for PTSD.
JSO said another lady on a bike got into an argument with her, so the veteran called 911 but also told the officers that she was armed.
Officers responded and started walking towards her, and then her dog bit the officer in the thigh. He fired about three shots at the dog.

JSO said when the shooting happened, she may have received a gun fragment or something else from the ground hit her foot.
She was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK, the dog is also expected to be OK, and so is the officer.
The child was not hurt. Because this incident involved an officer firing his weapon, the State Attorney’s Office responded and is investigating as well.
