A woman was arrested Thursday after she slapped and tried to drown a child, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report.
Heather Jordan, 31, was arrested on charges of child abuse - personal/special weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
Police were called by a woman who said "several small children came to her residence very fearful and crying" and one of them said that Jordan tried to drown her and slapped her in her face.
Police observed that the victim had bruises on her face consistent with the way she described being slapped in the face.
Prior to Jordan reportedly hitting the victim, she had been arguing with her boyfriend, police said. The police report said Jordan and her boyfriend "were arguing and throwing things around the house."
At one point, Jordan was reportedly chasing her boyfriend, possibly with a knife, but eyewitness accounts varied as to what Jordan was holding.
A Florida Department of Children and Families investigator determined that Jordan "abused the victim because she was upset at her boyfriend."
As of Monday afternoon, Jordan was still listed as being in jail on a $280,000 bond.
