Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office report teenager shot in Southpoint area

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) has announced an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred in the Southpoint area near the 4600 block of Salisbury Road.

According to JSO, at around 11:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of a person shot at 4600 Salisbury Road.

Upon arrival, they found a juvenile female in her late teens who had sustained a single gunshot wound to the shoulder. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident took place in the parking lot of a nearby hotel, believed to be the Wyndham Garden Hotel. When an unknown vehicle approached, the victim was inside a white sedan with two other individuals. A person exited this vehicle with a handgun and fired approximately 17 times at the victim’s car.

The victim was the only person struck, and all other bullets hit the car, causing no additional property damage. The victims in the car were preparing to leave the hotel as their stay had ended.

JSO is currently processing evidence and contacting witnesses.

While the incident appears to be targeted, it is too early to determine which person was the intended target. One of the two individuals with the victim is cooperating with the investigation, while the other is not.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-colored car of unknown make and model. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage as part of the investigation.

This is an ongoing investigation and this story will be updated when details arrive.
