Victim ‘still traumatized’ after confrontation with stabbing suspect wanted for attempted murder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A victim and a witness share their account of the burglary and stabbing that happened in Riverside, Saturday afternoon. Now, JSO needs your help finding the suspect responsible for attempted murder and armed carjacking Saturday.

Olga Perez was listed on a JSO incident report as one of the first victims the suspect encountered in the 700 block of College St. And just over 48 hours later, she says she still can’t sleep at night.

Perez said in Spanish, “I was between life and death with my daughter.”

It was broad daylight when Perez noticed a stranger in the private parking lot of her job. She says she saw him jump the fence and then walk toward her. She snapped a picture of the suspect and shared it with JSO.

The suspect is described as bald and last seen wearing glasses, a grey t-shirt with blue and orange or red writing, black pants, and black boots.

“I told him, ‘Don’t do that,” Perez said in Spanish. “Because I saw he was coming towards us as if he was going to kill us. He was approaching us to attack us, and I told him not to do that.”

Perez says the suspect grabbed her work items along with her daughter’s backpack. But her biggest fear was the knife she says the suspect had hidden in his pants.

“Since that day, I can’t sleep,” Perez said in Spanish. “And my daughter can’t either. She kept asking me, ‘What’s happening, mom.’ I’m very scared, I’m still traumatized.”

After telling him to leave, he eventually did – using a ladder to climb over the fence. JSO’s incident report details the suspect harassing another person at the vet store across the street. And then moments later, a stabbing occurred a few hundred feet away.

“We just here like a man running and yelling like for help please help,” Jayme Bomeke said.

Bomeke was leaving the Dog Park at Riverside Park when she witnessed the aftermath and her instincts kicked in.

“All I saw, was blood all over him, and he had collapsed to his knees and then to his back,” Bomeke said. “So that’s when I got out of my car and he was compressing his neck because his neck was stabbed in the front gushing out everywhere.”

Bomeke was listed on this incident report as one of the witnesses who helped render aid. She provided the stab victim with a towel.
