Jacksonville woman shot by masked carjacker outside Dollar General

Police said a Jacksonville woman was carjacked and shot by a masked man as she walked out of a Dollar General on Kings Road.

That woman told Action News Jax she suffered several shattered bones when she was shot in the hand as a man took her car.

According to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report, the masked man approached her at her car, told her to “give it to me” and attempted to take the victim’s purse and belongings. The woman put up a fight, and that’s when he pulled out a gun and pointed it right at her.

Police said as the woman put up her hands to protect herself, the suspect fired a shot, hitting her in the hand. Officers said she then ran into the store for help, and the armed man took off with her car.

The report said an officer later saw the stolen car and a second suspect got out and ran. They said he entered the emergency room at UF Health, where he was spotted by security.

“It’s Christmastime, and I know people start acting like fools around this time,” said Brittney Jackson, a shopper.

Police said the 17-year-old told them he bought the victim’s car for $150 and that he didn’t know the car was stolen.

“It can happen to anyone if you don’t safeguard yourself,” said Imani Rodgers, another shopper.
