A Jacksonville megachurch now officially owns the space at Regency Square Mall formerly occupied by the Belk department store.
Impact Church closed on the space on Wednesday night. In February, Impact Church signed a contract to buy the space in the troubled and nearly empty mall. The church has grown out of its campus on Lone Star Road, as services are so packed that not all members are able to fit in the sanctuary.
The church's Bishop George Davis told Action News Jax in February that church isn’t going to put up walls but instead welcomes shoppers to come enjoy the same resources as the members.
"We have plans to have business ideas, one or two retail areas," Davis said at the time. "We'll have a teen center entertainment center, movie screens, a game room and a place to come and not worry about crime."
