Jacksonville, Fl — The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department has announced the passing of Lt. Mario J. Moya.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the line of duty death (LODD) of JFRD Lieutenant Mario J. Moya of Rescue-42-B”, the department said in a statement.

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Lieutenant Moya unselfishly served this community while continually exposing himself to the very virus that cost him his life”.

Moya served for 17 years and is survived by his wife Christina and children Bobby, Bella, and MJ.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced soon.

On Wednesday JFRD honored Lt. Moya with a display on the St. Johns River.
