FORT PIERCE, Fla. — This weekend from Feb. 25-26, JEA line workers competed against many other statewide linemen in the annual Florida Lineman Competition in Fort Pierce and won several accolades.

Jacksonville line workers bested many agencies from across the state by winning the Vertical Hurtman Rescue event, placing second in the 4kV Crossarm Change Out event and achieving fifth place overall in the Journeyman Team Competition.
The utility workers competed in challenges such as replacing insulators on 40-foot utility poles, changing transformers and completing a simulation of rescuing injured line workers, all while racing to get the fastest time and performing safely.

Competitors earn points for completing the tasks as quickly as possible and lose points if safety standards and proper work practices are not followed.
Nine JEA lineworkers competed in the competition. In all, 137 line workers and 43 judges from 11 Florida utilities participated.
