JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As colder temperatures spread through the Jacksonville area, many residents may turn to space heaters for warmth. JEA urges customers to use them with caution.

Space heaters allow residents to turn down their thermostats and save costs during this period, however, they can be dangerous if not used properly.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, 44% of fires are caused by space heaters. Action News Jax previously warned you about space heater fires HERE.
JEA recommends using the following safety tips while using a space heater:
- Set up your space heater on a level surface
- Also, keep the space heater away from foot traffic.
- Never leave a space heater unattended.
- Never leave a space heater on overnight.
- Never place a space heater close to flammable items.
