“The problem is that the run volume is so high in here that we need to put a pocket station in here to handle the number of runs,” said Chief Keith Powers.
City council member Reggie Gaffney agreed, adding that in the last few years, Dunn Avenue and Harts Road have been plagued with violence.
“Numerous, thousands, calls, deaths, non-emergency and emergencies. Today is an investment in our community,” Gaffney said.
The fire station is a $6 million investment, and JFRD has already started on or has plans to start construction on at least another eight stations by the end of June.
JFRD did say that construction needs to be complete by mid-October. When its done the station will be complete with an engine, rescue unit, ALS rescue and an advanced life support agent.
