JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Along Gate Parkway you will now see what appears to be a trailer and large garage. But, inside, you'll find Station No. 63.
Action News Jax reported the original announcement on Thursday.
The station officially began responding to calls Monday.
The temporary station near the Baymeadows area is expected to increase response times. Previously, the closest station was 4 miles away. Phillip Orduna lives on the Southside and said crews were delayed when called he previously called for help.
Here’s a look at the temp. @JFRDJAX fire and rescue station, which officially made its debut today. It’s small, but meant to bring about big change to the Southside/Town Center area. Their goal is quicker response times when someone calls for help @ActionNewsJax pic.twitter.com/w5IaDaVbXQ

"My girl, she was having issues where she was having heart flutters, and we called the ambulance to come out." Orduna said. "It took literally like 30 minutes for them to get there"

The permanent station will be built near the temporary facility and should be complete by 2020.
