JSO made an impromptu appearance at an unpermitted car meetup organized by 28-year-old Julio Rodriguez. Shortly after his arrest, JSO identified him as a suspect who had previously been arrested 4 other times between 2023 and 2024. Rodriguez will be held with felony charges.
Action News Jax previously told you about how Rodriguez had previously been involved in organizing a large-scale street takeover in June 2024, where a man was severely injured.
Another man, 24-year-old Muntander Husham Sal Al Fadhili, was also arrested this past week after fleeing from Rodriguez’s meetup.
JSO warns about street racing and takeovers whether you are a driver or a spectator, providing the following prohibited options:
- Driving in street races, drag races, or street takeovers.
- Performing stunts like burnouts, doughnuts, drifting, or wheelies on public roads or parking lots.
- Blocking traffic for races or stunts.
- Filming or fueling vehicles involved in illegal events.
- Being a spectator at such events.
- Promoting/posting about illegal events on social media.
JSO also provided the following breakdown of penalties if caught involved with street racing
- First offense
- Misdemeanor arrest
- $500–$2,000 fine
- 1-year license suspension
- Repeat offenses
- Felony arrest
- Higher fines
- Longer suspensions
- Possible vehicle impoundment or forfeiture
JSO plans on expanding its Traffic Enforcement Unit in 2025, with hopes of keeping roads safer and cleared of such races and takeovers.
