JSO: Huguenot Memorial Park evacuated, suspect arrested after reported fight

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Reports from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office state that JSO, along with several other agencies, responded to assist Park Rangers in evacuating Huguenot Memorial Park after a fight broke out on the beach.

According to the incident report, officers were dispatched at 2:55 p.m. Friday in reference to a fight. While dispersing the crowd potentially involved in the fight, officers noticed one person was being particularly belligerent. When asked to leave, he refused and subsequently tried to run away when he was placed under arrest.

Once in the patrol car, the officers transporting the suspect were rear-ended. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department attempted to take the suspect to the hospital due to injuries he sustained in the crash, but he attempted to exit the ambulance while they were driving, prompting them to pull over.

Eventually, the suspect calmed down and was transported to UF Health Downtown to have his injuries treated.

This is an ongoing investigation and will be updated when details arrive.
