JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A fatal traffic crash in Hyde Park claimed the life of a passenger and left the driver with minor injuries Saturday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit reported that the crash occurred at 1:10 p.m. when a small SUV traveling northbound on Lane Ave S crossed into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons.
The SUV narrowly missed several vehicles before careening off the road and into a field next to Redemption Church. It then struck a light pole and ultimately collided with a tree before coming to a stop.
The passenger, an adult male, was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver, who suffered minor injuries, was also taken to the hospital for treatment. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
This tragic accident marks the 62nd traffic fatality in Duval County this year.
Despite the crash, traffic in the area was not affected.
The Sheriff’s Office is urging drivers to be cautious and attentive while behind the wheel to prevent such accidents from occurring.
