JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman in her sixties was found dead inside a home early Monday morning. It happened on Big Feather Trail in the Mandarin area.
The home had no sign of forced entry, but Jacksonville police say they suspect foul play. JSO initially reported the scene involved shots fired, but were unable to confirm if a shooting had taken place.
Police say a family member hadn’t heard from the victim for a couple of days and went to check in on her. That’s when police say the woman was found dead.

“A crime like that is very rough,” Eldwin Marzan said. He and his wife, Nancy, live down the street. They feel for the victim and her loved ones facing such a tragedy on Valentine’s Day.
“We just lost a son Thanksgiving Day which was hard, and he died of natural causes, but to hear that it’s not natural causes, somebody committed a murder, across the street practically,” Eldwin Marzan said.
According to JSO, one other person, a family friend, lives at the home too. Police say the housemate is not a person of interest, but officers are trying to make contact with that person.
The death down the street has Nancy Marzan on edge. “I walk up and down the streets at night sometimes just walking around to de-stress. Never, not a peep,” she said.
Hansel Baxter also enjoys going for walks. She’s lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years and calls the crime a first.
“Keep a watch on each other. Just keep a watch on your neighbors. Just keep a good watch,” Baxter suggested.
Neighbors’ hearts go out to the victim and her family. The Marzan’s added that they’d like to see police officers patrolling the neighborhood.
