The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Sunday that a carjacking suspect shot and killed a police K-9 during a chase.
JSO identified the fallen K-9 as Fang. Fang worked many special events and football games in his job at JSO, the agency said.
Police said K-9 Officer Herrera was Fang's handler.

The incident happened near I-10 at Cecil Commerce Center, but the crime scene extended to multiple areas, including a 7-Eleven on Lem Turner where a suspect committed a carjacking.
JSO responded and pursued the carjacking suspect. At some point, the suspect stopped and ran into some woods, and a K-9 unit gave chase. It was then that the K-9 was shot and killed, JSO said.
According to police, a second K-9 was deployed and tracked down the suspect.
Officers say they plan to release more information about the K-9 later Sunday.
This morning, We mourn the loss of our K9 brother from @JSOPIO. We pray for his partner and JSO family. He was shot and killed during a pursuit of an armed carjacker. The suspect was caught, but at a very heavy price. Thank you for your service, our four-legged hero. pic.twitter.com/dStVUIF8Kr
