Powe was going to be a senior at Ed White High School.
Karen Hardge was the teen’s aunt. She’s remembering the teen as a bubbly person with a beautiful spirit.
“It was a senseless killing,” Hardge said. “There was no reason for her to have to die like this.”
During the briefing, police did not give a suspect description.
Hardge said police told the family they have a person in custody. Action News Jax reached out to JSO to confirm.
While it won’t mend their broken hearts, Hardge said it brings the family some comfort.
“Even though our hearts are breaking right now we’re just going to continue to embrace each other and love each other and just stay strong,” Hardge said.
JSO’s Mobile Command Unit just arrived to the scene. Some of the officers are wearing Dive Team shirts. I’m working to figure out why they’re out here. @ActionNewsJax pic.twitter.com/oVNMvB9Oqn
