Keeping tires cool in the Northeast Florida heat

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The hot temperatures can wreak havoc on your car's tires.

Tony Mossuto of Everything Automotive on Beach Boulevard said he has already seen a few customers coming in with blown out tires.

TRENDING:

"Running your tires under inflated is probably the biggest killer. Under inflated really increases the heat," Mossuto said.

Having your tires properly inflated will help tremendously, Mossuto said.

Driver Ron Hopkins said he’s taking precautions with his own SUV.

“I do check my tires regularly make sure I have the correct air pressure,” Hopkins said.

It didn’t take long for Action News Jax to spot a pick-up truck hauling away a load of worn out tires that appeared to have blown out.

Running on low tread is also a big risk.

Mossuto showed us photos of a car he said recently caused a crash on the Arlington Expressway. It had almost smooth tires, meaning barely any tread.

“It’s not something you need to risk. It’s just not worth your life or, God forbid, you get hurt or hurting someone else,” Mossuto said.

As the temperatures continue to rise, many will want to hit the road.

“Have it checked out, everything checked, and make sure it’s good before you leave,” Mossuto said.
