Kirby Smith Middle School and Andrew Robinson Elementary were briefly locked down Thursday after reports of an armed juvenile near campus.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said in a Tweet that the schools were placed "on lock-down due to someone calling
reference a person near the school walking around with a rifle and mask on.
After an extensive search, a juvenile suspect was located with a rifle and is in police custody. More info will be coming."
JSO announced Thursday night that they had arrested Traytavious Martin, 17, and charged with him carrying a firearm on school property.
JSO said a resident that was doing yard work witnessed Martin openly carrying a rifle and was headed towards Kirby-Smith Middle School. The resident called JSO, authorities said.
Martin was found at a house on Drysdale Street and led officers into a bedroom where the firearm was concealed under a couch, JSO said. The weapon had 23 live rounds of ammunition
Another occupant of the house was arrested on an outstanding robbery warrant, JSO said.

JSO said that a tip came in about a suspicious person near the schools. A suspect was quickly located and taken into custody.
The schools, located in the Springfield section of Jacksonville, were put on a lockdown following the report.
Parents were seen lining up to pick up their children after the schools locked down. Dismissal times were modified for the schools.
“They did a good job about locking it down, making sure everybody was safe, because we can’t have this here and the shootings in the school," one parent said.
