Kristina French's sister opens up about her murder 1 year later

This day last year, 53-year-old Kristina French was believed to be missing with her grandson, Logan Mott.

What investigators didn’t know at the time was that French’s body was buried in a shallow grave in the backyard of her son’s Neptune Beach home.

One year later, French's younger sister, Koni Hedgecock, opened up exclusively to Action News Jax. 
"I did not ever, ever think that what transpired would've happened," Hedgecock said. "What a good woman lost."

She said she remembered getting a call from French’s son, Eric Mott, the day before Thanksgiving, telling her that French and Logan Mott, who was 15 at the time, were missing.

“I checked my phone like every second,” Hedgecock said

Police first responded to the home on Seagate Avenue on Nov. 22 in reference to a missing person investigation.

French’s body was discovered on Nov. 24. That same day, Mott was captured trying to cross the border into Canada.

The police report said French’s body had been wrapped in thick clear plastic and secured with duct tape and masking tape.

“How could you take your grandma’s clothes and wrap her in plastic wrap and dig a hole and bury her like she’s a nothing?” Hedgecock asked.

She said French and Mott were extremely close and wants to know what may have caused the teen to snap.

She said her sister would want her to forgive the teen, but she said she doesn’t know if she can.

“Look at what you took from all of us and look what you did,” Hedgecock said. "There will never be closure.”
