The double-murder suicide carried out by a suspended Glynn County police lieutenant has put a spotlight on the actions of local law enforcement officers in a small Southeast Georgia community.

Action News Jax first showed you on Thursday new documents in the case that show how Cory Sasser got his hands on the murder weapon despite conditions of his bond prohibiting him from possessing a firearm.

The district attorney’s office released an 18-page timeline of events from mid-May to late June.

New information in the case has us asking whether the local justice system did everything it could to prevent the murders of Katie Kettles Sasser and John Hall Jr.

The official timeline shows a clear escalation that culminated with Sasser tracking down his estranged wife and her boyfriend, shooting them to death, and then shooting himself in the chest.

On June 28, the day of the killings, documents show Sasser’s probation officer asked a Glynn County police officer whether a warrant would be issued for Sasser following an incident that took place at Moondoggy’s two days earlier, in which Kettles said Sasser made a gun gesture at her and Hall.

"They didn’t think they had enough to support an aggravated stalking charge," the documents say the officer said.

Later that day, a series of phone calls are documented.

Around 7:20 p.m., about two hours before the murders, Sasser called another Glynn County police officer and asked, “if he knew anything about Tolomato Island. Sasser stated it was in McIntosh County and was where John Hall was supposed to reside,” the documents say.

Sasser goes on to say, “I just wanna teach the (expletive) about principles”.

When the officer questioned Sasser about his location, he lied and said he was “drunk outside of a casino in Biloxi, Mississippi," according to the documents.

Around 9:45 p.m., Sasser called his adult son Bryce and said, “I killed them. I killed them both,” the documents say.
