A Jacksonville man is recovering after he said he was hospitalized from receiving severe food poisoning from lettuce.

Charles Barth told Action News Jax, he had a salad last Friday and said he immediately started hemorrhaging blood.

In a social media post, the man said the lettuce caused severe internal bleeding that led to the loss of consciousness.

"This isn't the type of food poisoning you can get over at home." Barth wrote.

Barth said the lettuce made him incredibly weak and said he is having a difficult time recovering because of the damage the lettuce caused him.

In April, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a warning to not eat any type of romaine lettuce, including whole heads, hearts of romaine lettuce, chopped romaine and salads and salad mixes containing romaine.

In Florida, there are no reported cases of E.coli. Action News Jax is working to learn if Barth's food poisoning is linked to the E.coli outbreak.

The Food and Drug Administration and CDC said the E.coli threat appears to only be from romaine lettuce grown in Yuma, Arizona.

U.S. health officials said Wednesday, 84 people from 19 states have been sickened due to lettuce.
