Many community events happening soon to celebrate Black National Anthem

Singing opportunity The Friends of the Brentwood Library are looking for 500 children to help celebrate the 125th anniversary of "Lift Every Voice and Sing." (The Friends of the Brentwood Library)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — You can now register to take part in several free events honoring the 125th anniversary of Lift Every Voice and Sing.

The song, known as the Black National Anthem, was written and composed by Jacksonville natives James Weldon Johnson and his brother J. Rosamond Johnson.

The anniversary is also being celebrated as a World Tribute Festival from Feb. 12 to 16.

There are a number of events taking place including a youth piano competition, a community family day at The Ritz Theater, panel discussions at the Jacksonville Public Library, and a performance of the iconic song by 500 children at Bethel Baptist.
