Local registered nurse steps in the help during I-95 crash that left four dead

CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. — Action News Jax spoke to a local nurse who gave CPR to a victim in Friday’s fatal traffic crash in Georgia, that caused massive back-ups on I-95

Mariette Goble says she saw a semi-truck roll across the interstate right in front of her car.

She wasn’t hurt but says once everything was at a standstill she jumped out of her car to help those involved

“I looked over and saw this semi flipping and crossing over into our lane,” says Goble.

Goble says it was tough to see during Friday’s deadly crash on 95 near the Florida-Georgia line.

“We were all just trying to break. At that point I’m like okay that semi is in front of me and I was just in complete shock,” says Goble.

Goble a registered nurse, says she was heading back home from work to Woodbine, Georgia.

The Georgia Highway Patrol tells Action News Jax that four people died, and multiple people were taken to the hospital.

It caused both northbound and southbound lanes to be blocked for hours.

Goble says once the crash was at a stand-still she and others tried their best to help everyone in the crash.

“This girl came up to me and she was like my sister is in there. And all of a sudden, I heard people saying there are two little girls in there,” says Goble.

Goble says that the car involved in the crash was so mangled up it was tough to get the little girls out.

“Every door was jammed in and it was all shut. Everything from the trunk was pushed towards the front of the vehicle,” says Goble.

She adds someone smashed the back window out and climbed through to save those girls.

“There was a little girl and I was talking to her and making sure where was her pain, is she okay and was able to talk and she was,” says Goble.

Goble says shortly after that, the unthinkable happened.

“There was another man who came up I believe he was the driver; he was pointing to a body next to my feet,” says Goble.

She says she didn’t realize there was a body there because of the glass and broken parts of the semi-truck.

Goble says she immediately performed CPR.

“At that point, I felt a pulse that was thready there but quickly that changed. I attempted to resuscitate him at that point it was no airway and it was clear that he was gone,” says Goble.

Goble adds she is praying for the families involved and wants to remind everyone to drive safely this holiday weekend, so they don’t experience what she did.
