ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Theresa Lindner suffered a traumatic brain injury two years ago.
Part of her therapy is walking on the beach and Mickler's Landing is where she does that, every day.
"I couldn't even stand in the sand when I started and now I can walk a few miles on the sand. It's imperative I be able to walk on the beach. I've already lost a week now of my beach walking," Lindner said.
Construction equipment was laid out Monday, just north of the beach parking lot for the dune reconstruction project being paid for by a small group of homeowners.
Action News Jax told you last week when St. Johns County commissioners approved a plan to allow the group to place geotubes near their homes to help slow erosion following a hurricane.
Originally, Mickler's Landing Beachfront Park was scheduled to close weekdays through February 2020.
But county commissioners backtracked after receiving serious pushback from locals.
Right now, Mickler's Landing is open from Friday to Monday, and on Tuesday through Thursday, it will be closed for construction.

Sandy Rell said that's really going to hurt families this holiday season.
"You have Thanksgiving, you have Christmas Eve and Christmas Day -- on those three days -- and New year's Eve and New Year's Day," Rell said.
She thinks there are other options for contractors that would still allow them to get the work done on the beach without cutting off access for everyone else.
"Have him work at night and we can have it during the day," Rell said.

"Ideal situation would be to allow coexist as originally agreed to by the county commissioners, or they'll have to leave," Lindner said.
For now, these locals say they hope commissioners will consider other options, so their beach access can be restored to seven days a week.
I'm told they will write up an e-mail with a list of solutions for St. Johns County commissioners to look over.
