Lonzie Barton's mother Lonna appears somewhat animated in court Monday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The last two people to see missing toddler Lonzie Barton alive were back in front a judge Monday, one month before they go on trial together.

Lonzie’s mother, Lonna Lauramore Barton, and her boyfriend, prime suspect Ruben Ebron, face charges of child neglect and lying to police.

Barton was somewhat animated in the courtroom Monday morning.

At one point, she was seen smiling and chatting with an officer and appeared to wink at someone in the courtroom.

Ebron was silent, letting his attorney speak, and for the second straight week the two sat one in front of the other and did not address the judge together.

Their joint trial was originally scheduled to start Monday, but is now scheduled to start in January.

Attorneys said they needed more time to go over important materials for trial.

Action News Jax spoke with Ebron’s mother after the hearing about the extension.

“I know it's going to take awhile. I just try to live my life. I am a nurse, I am a grandmother, I am a wife, I have a lot of roads and I have things to do. So it is what it is,” Wanda Ebron said.

Wanda Ebron also said she believes that the rights of her son and Barton are being deliberately denied to them while they are in custody.

The couple will go to trial on Jan. 11.
