JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 34-year-old man has been charged with the death of a Pittsburgh woman and her uncle in a mobile home on Jacksonville's Southside.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced on Monday morning announced the arrest of Thomas Brown. He is accused of strangling 32-year-old Amy Hatfield and stabbing 59-year-old Robert Massey.
The two had recently moved from Pennsylvania, and Hatfield was visiting her uncle, JSO said.
Officers said the two got into that argument on July 7 and Brown strangled Hatfield to death with some type of cord.
"There were severe wounds, and then the girlfriend who had something tied around her neck. I mean, there's no way you can explain that," JSO Lt. Steve Gallaher said.
Brown left the room and ran into Massey, JSO said. The two began to fight and Brown pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed Massey repeatedly in the throat and neck, authorities said.
Police tracked the vehicle in which Brown left to a rehabilitation center in Georgia, where police believe he was hiding.
Brown also had warrants out of Pennsylvania for burglary and a probation violation. He’s now charged with two counts of second-degree murder.
