The man behind the Jaxson de Ville suit is retiring

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Curtis Dvorak's high-flying, golf-ball smashing act as Jaxson de Ville is over.

The man behind the suit, who is widely known as Jaxson de Ville, is retiring as the mascot of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Dvorak practically created Jaxson de Ville say it's time to move on.

"The thing that I'm going to remember forever is the relationship with this city and the relationship with the Jaguars fans," Dvorak said.  "I really feel like I've pushed it as far as I can."

There have been rumors recently about Dvorak's retirement. His popular Twitter feed, with nearly 27,000 followers, has been been quiet for nearly a month.

Dvorak, a low-handicap golfer, became a fixture in the suit in area pro-am and charity golf tournaments. Dvorak amazed professional and amateur players alike with his skill while wearing the bulky suit. He was also well-known for his stunts in the stadium while in full uniform -- he's zip-lined across the field and bungee-jumped from the massive light towers.

As Jaxson de Ville, Dvorak was able to hit the famed 17th green at TPC Sawgrass in May -- using a driver. Video of the feat was shared worldwide.  Jaxson de Ville would also hit golf balls with PGA TOUR players from atop Everbank Field during Monday Night Football telecasts.

As for his replacement, Dvorak say he will help whoever takes over as the new mascot -- but says he won't tell him what to do so that person can make it their own.

Dvorak's long run didn't come without controversy. He made national headlines last year when he held up a sign saying "Towels carry Ebola" during a Pittsburgh Steelers game while holding up a Terrible Towel.
