Man convicted of breaking into ex-classmate's condo with handcuffs, Taser awaits sentence

The local man convicted of breaking into a former classmate’s condo with handcuffs and a stun gun was in court Friday for his sentencing hearing, but will have to wait to find out what his punishment will be.

Paul Kartsonis apologized to his former classmate, Molly Maguire.

“What I did was incredibly selfish and morally reprehensible,” he said.

Kartsonis pleaded guilty to the break-in, although Maguire wasn’t there at the time of the June 2018 incident.

According to police, Kartsonis stole her bra, underwear and dress, and was wearing them underneath his clothing.

They said he was also wearing prosthetic silicone breasts when arrested.

In front of the courtroom, Kartsonis said, “I was never going to hurt you.”

During the sentencing hearing, he told the judge he only went to Maguire’s because he knew she wasn’t home.

According to an arrest report, he told officers he had been watching and fantasizing about her for weeks prior to the incident.

Maguire and her parents told the judge they don’t believe Kartsonis’ statement.

The family tearfully asked for the strongest possible sentence.

They also described the impact of the incident as devastating and life changing.

Prosecutors are asking for an eight-year prison sentence, 25 years probation and mental health treatment for Kartsonis.

The judge said he will hand down a sentence at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
