The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office uploaded a photo of a car deputies say was involved in a shooting. Deputies said the red car drove up alongside the victim’s car and opened fire.

Action News Jax asked SJCSO if this was a case of road rage or a targeted shooting, and a spokesperson said the circumstances surrounding it are being investigated.

“Broad daylight before lunchtime is kind of brazen to do a shooting,” Nicholas Scarpa said.

One man was shot and a woman was hurt from broken glass after it crashed into the center guard rail, deputies said the red car drove off after.

Drivers like Nicholas Scarpa saw the aftermath.

“I saw a lot of forensic units, a lot of police officers, a white Mercedes with four or five bullet holes in the windshield,” he said.

Video from when first responders were at the scene shows that a white Mercedes was up against the guard rail when the shooting and crash happened Tuesday morning at 11:20 a.m. The incident blocked all lanes of I-95 south near County Road 210 and International Golf Pkwy.

“It was about dead stop,” Scarpa said of the traffic aftermath. “It was about 25-30 minutes before I could really start moving.”

Action News Jax learned one person is in critical condition, Scarpa is hoping the Sheriff’s Office finds who’s responsible.

“I hope justice is served and whoever was shot at is okay,” he said.

There have been no arrests made in the case, as deputies said the car drove away. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said if you see that red car, don’t approach and call 911.

The agency is also asking the public if they were driving in that area at the time and have any information or video that could help them in the investigation, to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-8477 or p3tips.com. The agency said you may be eligible for a $5,000 reward, or you can call SJSO directly at 904-824-8304.
