A Nassau County mom said her daughter came home from middle school with lice and it spread to the rest of the family in a matter of days.
The mom of a Yulee Middle School student didn’t want to be identified, but she said her daughter’s head was infested with lice.
"She goes to school and she comes home, so that's really the only place she could have possibly gotten it," the mother said.
She said as soon as she found the lice, she called the school to notify them, but the school told her they don’t send home letters unless they find the lice.

"She said 'we don't send notification unless we see it ourselves,'" the mother said.
But she said her sixth grader said students haven’t been checked for lice at all this school year.
"And if they're not proactively doing lice checks, then how would they know if anyone had lice?" the mother said.
The spokesperson for the Nassau County School District said when head lice is found in the classroom, a note is sent home and that’s when students are screened.
"It’s very concerning only because you don't want your child to get it," Yulee Middle School parent Angela Kent said.
But some parents said they should be notified regardless of how it’s found.
"A paper should be sent home informing the parents that this is happening and we should be aware of it," Yulee Middle School parent Kelly Hill said.

Kent said she understands why the school isn’t alerting parents about this incident.
"If they don't have proof, they can't send out something based on what other people say," Kent said.
Regardless, Kent said she is going straight home to check her daughter for head lice.
"Definitely checking because I know how quickly that stuff spreads," Kent said.
The school district also said that they don’t do random screenings for head lice, but if lice is found in three or more classrooms, then a notice is sent to all the parents at the school.
