Money clips that resemble JSO badges causing concern

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville jeweler’s Facebook post about their money clips for sale is raising concerns from some people in the area because they look so much like real Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office badges.

A viewer reached out to Action News for answers, concerned criminals could get a hold of the badges from Faith Jewelers and impersonate an officer.

Co-owner Gwen Strickland said she and her husband J.R. Strickland don’t let just anybody buy those JSO badge money clips. They require JSO identification to prove the purchaser is a real officer.

Gwen Strickland said her husband would know; he’s a former JSO officer himself.

JSO spokesperson Officer Melissa Bujeda said selling those badges does not violate Florida law.

It’s only against the law to impersonate an officer.

If you’re concerned for your safety, you can always ask to see an officer’s ID card, which will have that officer’s photo on it.

Faith Jewelers has had no complaints with the Better Business Bureau or Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
