Jacksonville, Fla. — Plans for the new Museum of Science and History moved another step forward Wednesday after unanimous committee approval from the Downtown Investment Authority.
Action News Jax reported in August about concerns about the site plan.
DIA CEO Lori Boyer told us it was difficult to tell what the site was going to look like when it moves to the Northbank, and how the public would be able to interact with it.

Developers presented its final site plan to the DIA earlier this month, providing specific details on how the building would be used, vehicular and pedestrian access, and how the museum would mesh with other projects planned on the Riverfront.
The committee recommended approval with conditions that addressed their concerns regarding egress points to Bay Street and the St. Johns River, a transparent animal exhibit, and open spaces which would feature public art or interactive equipment like swings or play equipment.

The resolution authorizes Boyer to approve minor changes to the plan that includes using a portion of the building’s Bay Street frontage as cafe space and allowing interior spaces to be reorganized to allow for greater public interaction.
MOSH is set to move from its current location on the Southbank to a 6.8-acre site on the other side of the river along Bay Street.
MOSH plans to enter a ground lease with the City of Jacksonville for $1 per year.
The plan will need city council approval before it can break ground.
