A mom of four was one of two people killed in a head-on crash in Putnam County Saturday.
Troopers say Ramona Johnson was hit head-on at US 17 and Stardust Boulevard.
Her son tells Action News Jax Brittney Donovan that his sister was also in the car.
“A car was passing another car on the highway and ran into my mom, my mom actually tried to swerve and miss the contact but all the contact was basically on her side,” Jalen Mims said.
Mims said the last time he saw Johnson was in January, when he graduated basic training for the Army.
“She wanted me to buy this, get her an Army shirt, get her a shirt that says ‘Proud Army mom’ and stuff like that. So I had bought her stickers to put on her car and sweatshirts and stuff like that,” Mims said.
Troopers say Johnson was driving northbound on US 17 when a Honda Accord driven by 26-year-old Joseph Gomez swerved into her lane.
Johnson and Gomez were killed, troopers said.
Mims says his mom loved to have fun and would do anything for her kids.
“No matter what the situation was that we had, what we brought to the table – she would get it done. It wouldn’t matter if it was her last, she would give it to us,” Mims said.
As Mims flies home from his base in Kentucky to be with his family, other loved ones are remembering Johnson’s sense of humor, honesty and loyalty.
