KINGSLAND, Ga. — The Kingsland Police Department said multiple agencies responded to a serious hazmat situation at a truck stop off Interstate 95 at exit 3.

Rainwater got into that material and caused it to smoke, authorities said.

Investigators said one of the barrels of calcium carbide was smoking due to the reaction but did not spill or leak. No citations were issued since the chemical was transported properly.

No injuries were reported.

The semi-truck, owned by Premier Transport, departed from Summerville, S.C., and was bound for Jacksonville, officials say.
