Multiple crashes in Jacksonville’s Southside leave two dead and roads closed

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department is on the scene of a fatal crash on Sate Road 115 and Southside Boulevard North.

Update:

FHP states the vehicle was traveling eastbound on SR202 on the exit ramp from SR115 Northbound then, for reasons unknown at this time, traveled onto the left shoulder of the exit ramp and left the roadway. The vehicle continued across the grass shoulder into the tree line and struck a tree. The driver is suffering from serious injuries, while the passenger sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

FHP reported that the cause of this crash is currently under investigation due to the nature of the crash.

Crews are reporting that one person is trapped and one confirmed dead at this time. The off-ramp is closed and JFRD is telling drivers to expect delays.

The second crash occurred on Buckman Bridge at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday morning. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol state that a vehicle was traveling southbound on Interstate 295 and the Buckman Bridge while the second car was traveling southbound, ahead of the first vehicle.

For an unknown reason, the first vehicle struck the rear of the second car, causing the driver of the first vehicle to be ejected from his car. A third vehicle struck debris and was rendered disabled.

The ejected driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, as a result of the collision. FHP has stated that all southbound lanes of the Buckman Bridge, with the exception of the left (inside) lane, will be closed for an extended period of time
