NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — A new training facility for Nassau County sheriff’s officers is fully active now. NCSO held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday as the new training facility launched after a process five years in the making.
Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper says the new facility has two gun ranges, a North range and a South range.

“This gives us two ranges where we can do multiple scenarios, and other agencies can shoot here and not interrupt what we’re doing. Our personnel training will be housed too,” said Leeper.
The new facility was built to provide officers with an improved gun range for practice. It also has medical services for trainees during scorching outdoor heat. It also offers new green lights for night shooting and an extra 40 acres of space to accommodate more shooters.
NCSO’s old training facility could only accommodate 20 shooters, while the new one can handle 52. Lt. Jeff Stull calls the facility a huge improvement.

“This is a lot bigger, we accommodate more people, other officers, other agencies. We can do mutual training together. It’s a good success,” said Stull.
NCSO says the new training facility is still a work in progress as they work to establish extra features including a de-escalation training room, a fire training tower and a canine training and tracking area.
A big part of wanting to get this new and improved training facility up and running was to get more officers on the ground to help with the area’s high influx of 911 phone calls.
