FHP investigating double traffic fatality in Fernandina Beach

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — UPDATE: 7:32 p.m.

Reports from the Florida Highway patrol state that at approximately 12:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, a pedestrian was fatally stuck. The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and was also pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the 79 year-old pedestrian was walking northbound from the Egans Creek Greenway to cross Jasmine Street in a south to north direction when he walked directly into the path of a motorcycle.

The front struck the pedestrian and the driver was thrown from the motorcycle, thus causing his fatal injuries

The Florida Highway Patrol is responding to a traffic fatality in Fernandina Beach.

This is happening near Jasmine and South 14th streets, FHP said.

FHP said there is a roadblock, so motorists should avoid the area if possible.
