Nassau County Deputy Joshua Moyers laid to rest

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — Family and close friends of Deputy Joshua Moyers gathered for his funeral at First Baptist Church of Callahan before he was laid to rest on Saturday.

Moyers was shot during a traffic stop on Sept. 24 and later died from his injuries on Sept. 26. He was 29.

He started with the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office in 2015 and he was known “for his proactive police work, good attitude and hard work.” Moyers received a ABCD Award in 2018 for going Above and Beyond the Call of Duty.

On Sept. 28, Moyers’ patrol car was parked in front of the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office to become a memorial for the fallen deputy. Since then, a magnitude of flowers, cards and other gifts have accumulated in its place.

Moyers’ organs were donated to five people including a baby. “A hero even after death,” the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a post.

His family members and fiancée released the following statement after his passing:

“The family and fiancé of Deputy Josh Moyers would like to thank Sheriff Bill Leeper, Nassau County Sheriff’s Office and the multiple law enforcement agencies that have worked tirelessly to capture Patrick McDowell. Thank you to the community for your outpouring of love, support, and prayers during this difficult time. We know the overwhelming response of support shown to us, is a direct result of the impact Josh had on his community. Anyone wishing to pay tribute to Josh, his patrol vehicle is on display at the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office. We ask at this time for privacy, as we navigate and process this loss as a family. Thank you.”

The funeral was for invited guests, family and close friends. His family has requested any donations be made to NCSO Charities Inc.
