Navy identifies Kings Bay Sailor who died from complications of COVID-19

Kings Bay, Ga. — The Navy is sharing the identity of a young sailor who passed away from Coronavirus-related complications this week.

Information Systems Technician Second Class Petty Officer, Cody Andrew-Godfredson Myers, 26, was admitted to the Naval Air Station Jacksonville Hospital on Saturday, Jan. 30, and transferred to UF Hospital Shands Sunday, Jan. 31, where he subsequently tested positive for COVID-19, according to a release.

The Navy says Myers was in the ICU at the time of death.

Myers was placed on Restriction of Movement Jan. 18, as a precaution after close contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19.

In an official statement the Navy wrote “Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family, shipmates and friends of Petty Officer Myers during this extremely difficult time.”

The Navy says sailors who may have been in contact with Myers have been notified already and taken the appropriate precautions.
